This digital magazine is the third of my series: “On the Indian Highways” series of magazines. I traveled to Kurukshetra, the land of the Mahabharata several years back. I went to conduct a ceremony to honor my father’s memory. After the ceremony, I decided to stay the night and explore the area.
Kurukshetra is not just the land of the Mahabharata, our great Indian epic. I learned it is a region, not just a town. The epic is central to most parts of the region. However, in this area is a tomb to a famous Sufi Saint, one whom the luckless Dara was devoted to. It is also home to the area where Qutb ud-din Aibak defeated Prithviraj Chauhan and changed Indian history.
The region has a good university. It has rice fields. It is fascinating!
